I am fascinated with the history and beauty of old single use or limited use objects or ‘ephemera’ and giving them a new lease of life in my signature copper foil framed paintings. Old papers provide a fascinating snapshot into the lives of people in the past and are beautiful in their own right. Obsolete typefaces, distressed surfaces and handwritten notes provide perfect unique backdrops in their new life as an integral part of a piece of art.

Imagery from the natural world contrasts beautifully with these industrial pieces and I also frame them in my studio in handmade copper foil frames as an additional unique touch.

As we push on to the next phase of our threshing gang caravan restoration, we decided to pop over to the Cumbria Steam Gathering at Cark Airfield, Flookburgh last Saturday to see some steam and talk caravans!

The Caravan | Post No. 2 | - Removing Old Wood

Before we start on painting, removal of old wood was necessary to get an idea of what structural renovations we needed to make to the framework and chassis. This revealed some rather lovely details that had been hidden, perhaps since the caravan was built. This has given us extra information to work with as we renovate the caravan as true to its original state as possible. Photos are included of the process of removing old wood and also saving some parts to be stripped and refitted.
